We are so grateful that Jane was discharged and is back home! She moves gingerly but is doing well. Hospitals are such chaotic places I doubt she was able to sleep well and am hoping she does much better at home.
Lung cancer that is a stage 1A like her’s, means that this surgery is the only “therapy” she will need. No chemo, no radiation. They will monitor it for a while with chest CT’s to make sure there is no recurrence. But they had great margins on the tumor and with no lymph node involvement there is every reason to believe in an excellent prognosis.
Our primary work now is to give her body time to heal and build her strength back.
Because they puncture the tissue between the ribs for the operation, she can’t lift more than 15 pounds for the next 2 months, or reach behind her, or lift her arm above shoulder level. That tissue is thin and can tear easily. So she really has to take it easy and not use her right side very much. Even this is a much better outcome over a thoracotomy and we are grateful.
I am so happy to see that 1A! Now, on to healing back up, slowly – ever so slowly – but steadily! Sarah said the nurse said for her to walk slowly every day, just a little bit, and work up to a mile. Then, the doctor said, in a few days, she can walk a mile! Sarah told him what the nurse said, and he said, “Well, I guess I’m more hard core!” Anyway – praying for a good and complete recovery!
