Ancient Port of Corinth

Where we are staying on this trip is just a little outside of Corinth. You can see on the map the little star by Livas Travel. Our apartment is just above the travel service. The modern town of Corinth (Korinthos) is a little further down the road to the right.

Our host told us that the ancient port of Corinth is probably what we see right off our terrace. On the map, I’ve labeled it Ancient Port.

Probable Ancient Port

You can see two mounds in the picture above. These were presumably created by slaves as they dug the port.

Here you can see stone blocks leading down into the water, port related? Maybe.

While looking online to see if any of this was true, we found that researchers from the University of Copenhagen had discovered this underwater port entrance in 2015. you can read about their discovery and see a short video of their underwater work here.
