Thank you for healing me

I’ve been trying to sing in the morning as part of my time with God. The other day I chose this song, Thank You for Healing Me. It speaks of being healed of the disease of sin.

I’ve thought over the last few months that cancer is a good metaphor in some ways for the disease of sin. It can grow without me knowing. It grows out of control. It can seep over into other parts of my body. It needs powerful medicine to kill it. It cannot just be medicated. It must be killed. I cannot kill cancer. I need help from outside of myself to kill it.

All of these things can be applied to my sin nature. Jesus came as my “strong medicine” to heal me from my disease. His death and resurrection have freed me from the cancer of sin. This is the real disease that I need healing from. For healing from sin grants me eternal life; which cancer cannot take from me. Here are the words to the song:

The disease of my soul was spreading,
Eating me up on the inside,
Keeping my heart from your new life.
And i see now where I was headed
For there is no cure that can save us,
Outside of Your mercy Lord Jesus.

Yes, You stepped in with Your power to save,
Let forgiveness reign,
Worked a miracle within.

Thank you for healing me;
I was dying beneath my shame
But You brought me to life again, and I will sing:
Thank you for freeing me
I was dead to the truth of You,
But my healing was in Your wounds, and now I sing:
Thank you for healing me.

Though outwardly I may waste away,
On the inside I´ll be more alive every day.
As I walk through times of pain and grief
There´s a deeper truth inside of me…
You have placed Your life inside of me.

I´m alive, I´m alive.
I´m alive, I´m alive in You.
Thankyou for healing me.

Thank you, Jesus, for healing me in the only way that really matters.
