How are you at letting people serve you?

Ok, so let’s go back a bit. Sunday, September 18 our Pastor Mark Driscoll was preaching on True Greatness. You know the place in Luke where Jesus says true greatness is being a servant. Great sermon  but I wasn’t expecting what the Spirit said through Pastor Mark.

That evening, before the service started, one of my friends at church said, “Can I do something to help? Can I bring you a meal?” I said, “Oh, no, not now. We’re doing ok. Let me get back to you.” I put her off very nicely didn’t I? I went into church and sat down.

A little bit into the teaching Pastor Mark began making some practical applications from the passage in Luke. One of the questions he asked was:

“…do you humbly allow others to serve you? Now, some of you are this way. You say, ‘I like to serve; I don’t like to be served.’ And so you’re hard to serve. People say, ‘Oh, let me do that for you.’ ‘No, no, no, no, I got it.’ ”

Slammed by the Holy Spirit. This is me. Let me serve you but don’t serve me. Do you know what happened after the service? I saw that same friend in the isle and I said to her, bring me a meal.

The very next day another friend said, “I can’t cook but I’m really good at organizing people to bring meals.” Unbelievable. I told her organize away. She got us posted on a website and my friends have been signing up to bring us food. We are overwhelmed by generosity. We are honored. We are grateful.

Thanks to all of you who are serving us in so many varied and wonderful ways. We are so grateful.

If you don’t live nearby and want to send us food, there’s always the fruit-of-the-month club. :-) Just kidding.

Grace to you

    learning.. love you friend…

  3. Jane you do not hear from us as often as I would like (which is all the time) but you are in our constant thoughts and prayers. We and the Lord are thinking of you all the time.
