First infusion

We are done with the first infusion. They started with a set of “pre-meds”, an IV bag mix of anti-nausea and steroids. (she has also been taking steroids in pill form, by the end of tomorrow I’ll be able to use her to hold up the car while I change a flat :).

We arrived at the cancer center about noon for a blood draw, and vital signs check and a visit with the physicians assistant. Then on to the first infusion. Once we completed the pre-meds drip, they started with the first chemo drug. They gave it to her slowly at first, looking for any signs of allergic reactions. “How are you feeling?”, “Are you OK?”. The nurse was kind and patient, answering any questions we had. With no evidence of reactions, they increased the speed of the IV pump. It took about 45 minutes to finish it off. The second drug was also no problem.

We were praying that Jane’s body would not have any reactions. Her fear was “Code blue! Get the crash cart!”. We thank God for his kindness and mercy that her body accepted the drugs well. We continue to pray that the drugs accomplish their purpose and kill any cancer cells remaining.

It’s almost 9pm and Jane is dozing on the couch. It’s been a long day.
