The Morning After

Jane had a bit of a rough start to the night last night. Getting her meds right, keeping the pain under control, getting food back on her stomach, all these things take time. Nausea flairs at the drop of a hat.

Sarah was able to be with her into the late hours, helping call the nurses, hearing what the doctor had to say as he checked on her. I’m still testing positive for covid, and so can’t go to the hospital. Arg!

When Jane left the OR they left a chest tube in one of the 5 small incisions they made. The tube is designed to drain fluids that build up in the chest cavity in addition to any air that might be leaking from the resection. They have her perform several tests, coughing, apply a little pressure to her lungs by blowing, etc to test for any developing air leaks. So far, everything is looking up. So we are hopeful she will be able to come home today.

She will need to show she is able to be up and walking and be on oral pain meds before they discharge her.

[9:30am] They have taken the tube out! Yea!
