I am in remission! Actually, technically I have been since surgery.
Last week I had my first post-chemo check-in with my oncologist. He said my anemia was almost gone and that my blood work looked good. We talked about what it looks like going forward. I’ll be meeting with him every 3 months and they will check my blood for cancer markers. They will also ask about other symptoms (of which I know nothing). These next 2-3 years are the highest risk of reoccurrence. After that, I’m pretty much “out of the woods.”
To help decrease the likelihood of a reoccurrence, my oncologist made the follow suggestions:
- Exercise; consistent program; 5 days a week for 40 minutes
- Eat right; veggies; not a lot of meat or fatty foods; stay away from processed foods
- No alcohol; studies show that the more alcohol you consume the greater risk of reoccurrence
- Maintain a healthy weight
I’ll make sure I eat expensive organic, free-range chocolate from now on :-)
Grace to you,
jane
Technically you are even better than that. You are cured. If there is no sign of cancer than you can’t be in remission because there is nothing to remiss. :)
God be praised!
